Sun outages begin February 25th in Juneo, Alaska and runs to March 12th in Miami, Florida.
Sun outage or sun fade is a naturally occurring phenomenon which affects all geostationary satellites.
Sun fade occurs when the sun, our satellite (AMC-8) and the earth are in alignment.
The sun, a stronger source of radio frequency energy than our satellite, overpowers our signal for anywhere from a few seconds to a maximum of thirty minutes.
As an affiliate it is necessary to prepare for this outage in advance.
Sun fade WILL cause a temporary loss of audio on your XDS receivers. The start/end dates as well as the length and intensity of the sun outage will vary by geographical location, and size of your dish. Times also vary by location.
You can get specific times and dates for your location by going to the link below, pulling down Tools and clicking on the Sun Outage Calculator
https://skyline.ses-worldskies.com/Tools/Enterprise%20Portal/NSS_SunOutageTool.aspx?WCMP=new
Once you have the Sun Outage Calculator open, select AMC-8, your territory and the city closest to your location. Be aware that SES-Americom has changed their name to ses-worldskies and has changed their website .
While the link was accurate at the time of this writing it too could change at anytime.
Please share this info with your programming and engineering departments so that they may plan ahead.
Thank you
Premiere is using RSS "Really Simple Syndication" to publish critical information concerning Premiere programming. These feeds will contain information including technical logs from the NOC, relay logs from the previous day and bulletins with up to the minute changes in programing, special feeds, and information about events that will affect your broadcasts.
To subscribe to these feeds simply click one of the RSS links:
Or if you prefer: below are the direct links for each feed.
We recomend using myYahoo to monitor these RSS feeds as we have observed rather lengthy delays with iGoogle.
The Premiere XDS PRO4-P receiver can record live programs and delay the playback as scheduled by you, the affiliate. However, the recorded programs will remain in the XDS receiver for a limited amount of time. The files will be deleted to insure the receiver has ample storage for future recordings. These are global settings for all stations. If you need to delay a program longer than than allowed, you may wish to use an external recording device.
For a downloadable PDF document listing all shows and the number of hours that they will remain available on your XDS Receiver click here.
